Trip Description

If you have little time to visit Cusco, the 6-day trek to Lares is an ideal option. This activity will allow you to see the main tourist attractions of the cultural capital of Peru, Cusco, and also the spectacular Sacred Valley of the Incas. You will also enjoy a 6-day hike along the Lares route and visit small communities located in the Andean mountains.

At the end, you will have the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The goal of this tour is to give you an authentic local experience of Peru’s culture and history, so don’t miss the opportunity to hike the Lares Trail!

Complete Itinerary

Day 01: Cusco – Huaran – Cancha Cancha

We leave Cusco in a bus that follows the route of the Sacred Valley until we reach Huaran, located at 2850 meters above sea level. On the way, we will have the opportunity to enjoy panoramic views of fields of crops and fruit trees, and we will stop for a rest and a drink in Somacpampa, after two hours of walking. We will then continue walking towards the village of Cancha Cancha, located at an altitude of 3900 meters above sea level, where we will be able to admire the flora and beautiful waterfalls along the way. Finally, we will set up our first camp in this place.

Day 02: Cusco – Cancha Cancha – Queñococha

We leave early in the morning to Queñococha to enjoy the beautiful views of the Acopata lagoons. Then we will climb for two hours to the Abra de Pachacutec, at 4600 m.a.s.l., and then descend to the Abra de Candarian to observe the Candarian lagoon. Then we will continue descending to Qollalay to take a break. Then we will continue our way to Qeñococha, passing through the town of Quishuarani and ascending to 4100 m.a.s.l. in Qeñococha, here will be our second camp.

Day 03: Queñococha – Huaca Wasi

On this day, we start early with breakfast, we will go to visit the beautiful lagoons of Wikicocha and Azulcocha, where we can enjoy an impressive view of the snow-capped Qolquechacana and the Awayman waterfall. Afterwards, we will descend to the village of Cuncani, where we will have the option to fish for trout. After a 3-hour hike, we will arrive at our campsite in Huacawasi. In the afternoon, we will continue our trek through the village of Cancha Cancha (3,950 m / 12,959 ft) and finally arrive at our warm camp in Acopata (4,200 m / 13,780 ft), after walking for a total of 7 hours. Here, you can relax and enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by our cooks before resting for the night.

Day 04: Huaca Wasi – Patacancha

At 7:00 a.m. we will leave to climb to the Abra Qolquechacana. After approximately 3 hours of walking and after having lunch, we will arrive to Patacancha, place where we will set up our camp.

Day 5: Pata Cancha – Ollanta

After breakfast, we will begin our hike where we will be able to admire small archaeological sites, the old bridle path and appreciate the traditional clothing of the local peasants. In addition, we will have the opportunity to see the original Inca trail. Finally, we will arrive in Ollantaytambo, where we will spend the night in a hotel.

Day 06: Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

After breakfast, we will take the train to Aguas Calientes, where we will join the guided tour of Machu Picchu. After this, we will take the bus back and board the train to Cusco.
